Kindroid Review 2026: Lite Is Gone, So What Does Kindroid Cost Now?

What Kindroid costs now that the free Lite plan is gone, and who it still suits.

Disclosure: "SpicyRanked has no affiliate or paid relationship with Kindroid and was not paid for this review. We did not use a free trial, a comped account or vendor access. Kindroid is for adults 18+ only."

Kindroid is an AI companion app built around long memory, voice and video calls, and AI selfies, made by Beautifully Incorporated in Los Angeles. It suits adults who want one persistent companion and are happy to pay for it.

Its biggest strength is public documentation that is more detailed than most of its category, covering memory, moderation, age checks and pricing. Its biggest weakness is new, because Kindroid retired its free Lite plan on 1 October 2026.

New accounts now get a one-time preview of 50 flagship messages before the account turns read-only, and Standard then costs $13.99 a month on the web. Our verdict is 7.5/10, strong and transparent, but no longer a place to stay free.

Quick Verdict

Kindroid is a well documented, subscription first AI companion with layered memory, calls and selfies. Since 1 October 2026 there is no ongoing free plan, only a one-time 50 message preview, and add-ons can push the monthly cost close to $100.

How We Reviewed Kindroid

We reviewed Kindroid on 2 October 2026 using only public sources. These were the homepage, the Kindroid Help Center, the legal page with its Terms and Privacy Policy, and the App Store and Google Play listings.

We did not create an account, start the 3-day trial or accept any vendor access. That means chat quality, memory recall, image output and call quality were not tested hands-on, and nothing below describes them as if they were.

Where we describe a feature, we describe what Kindroid documents publicly. We label brand claims as claims, and when something could not be checked we say so instead of guessing.

We score eight areas from 1 to 10 and average them. They are features, user experience, value, safety, privacy, transparency, support, and trust and accountability, and the full breakdown sits in the scorecard below.

What Is Kindroid?

Kindroid is a subscription AI companion app where you build a character, called a Kin, with its own backstory, memories, voice and avatar. You then chat with it, call it or swap AI selfies with it.

It runs on the web, iOS and Android. The App Store lists the seller as Beautifully Incorporated, and the legal page gives a mailing address on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles.

The homepage pitches Kindroid as an AI friend that listens, remembers and grows with you. Its moderation guidelines allow NSFW content and erotic roleplay for adults, within three hard limits covered in the safety section.

Kindroid already appears in our ranking of the best AI girlfriend apps, where it is compared with other memory focused companions.

How Does Kindroid Work?

Kindroid works by combining a character profile you write with several layers of memory, so a Kin can recall details from earlier chats instead of starting over. Calls, selfies and group spaces are built on top of that.

Kindroid Memory Explained

The Help Center memory guide, updated in August 2026, describes three layers.

  • Persistent memory holds the backstory, key memories, example messages, directives and recent chat.

  • Cascaded Memory is for subscribers and covers hundreds to thousands of recent messages. The 14 September 2026 update reworked it for more continuous coverage.

  • Retrievable memory covers long term memory and journals, which the Kin pulls in when they become relevant.

We could not test how well recall holds up over weeks of chat, and that is the thing most companion users care about. Treat the memory design as promising on paper rather than proven.

Voice Calls, Video Calls and Selfies

Subscribers get voice and video calls, custom voices and 1 million audio credits a month. Credits reset on the 1st at midnight Pacific time, do not roll over, and calls use an extra 400 credits per minute.

Selfies use credits too. Subscribers earn one selfie credit every 30 minutes, or two on Ultra and MAX, and the Help Center also lists inpainting, video selfies and an avatar boost that trains on four or more images.

Kindroid has a place in our NSFW AI image generator list for that selfie engine. The Help Center says the apps apply a keyword NSFW filter to media, while the web version does not.

Group Chats and Rooms

Group chats with several Kins are a subscriber feature, with up to 20 groups per account. Rooms, which left beta on 23 September 2026, add real people to the mix.

A Room holds up to 10 people and 11 Kins and is private and invite only. Subscribers can create Rooms, and free accounts can join by invitation as read-only viewers.

How Much Does Kindroid Cost?

Kindroid Standard costs $13.99 a month, $37.99 for three months or $139.99 a year on the web. Buying through the App Store or Google Play costs more, as the table shows.

Ultra and MAX are monthly add-ons that unlock only after significant usage history, according to Kindroid. Ultra needs Standard, and MAX needs both, so on the web the monthly total is $38.98 with Ultra and $98.97 with MAX.

Each add-on is cancelled separately. Kindroid warns that cancelling Ultra while keeping MAX leaves you paying for MAX at Ultra service, so check the Billing menu if you downgrade.

The web checkout accepts cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, Amazon Pay and Cash App. Voice credits used on the V3 voice model cost 1.5 times as much, and in-app purchases are not refundable.

What Changed on 1 October 2026

Kindroid retired its free Lite plan on 1 October 2026 and replaced it with a one-time preview for new accounts.

  • 50 flagship model interactions, or 15 in some regions Kindroid describes as high abuse, with regenerations and continues counting as half.

  • 5 selfies, with one at signup and one more every two hours.

  • 5,000 audio characters and up to 2 Kindroids.

  • When the preview runs out, the account becomes read-only, so you can view, export and delete but not send messages.

Existing free users received 50 final messages, and daily rewards now require a trial or a subscription. Older reviews that describe a free Kindroid tier are out of date.

How the Kindroid Trial Works

New users can take a 3-day premium trial, but it requires a payment method and converts into a paid subscription unless you cancel. On the web it also needs a verified phone number.

Kindroid says it emails a reminder one day before the trial converts. Starting a trial ends the free preview for good, and cancelling or deleting the account does not bring it back.

Kindroid Refund Policy

Kindroid says refunds are considered case by case, but that it generally does not offer them and all sales are final. It also reserves the right to permanently ban users who dispute charges.

Accounts terminated for breaking the Terms get no refund for unused time. If you are unsure, use the monthly web plan before committing to a year.

Is Kindroid Safe?

Kindroid is reasonably safe for adults who understand that it is unfiltered by design. It enforces three hard limits and checks ages, but it does not try to keep adult conversations tame.

Safety here means how the platform handles harm and minors. Privacy, meaning what happens to your data, is covered in the next section.

Kindroid Red Lines and Enforcement

The moderation guidelines, updated in August 2026, name three Red Lines. These are imminent self-harm, imminent harm to others, and child sexual abuse material.

Kindroid defines a minor as anyone under 18 whatever age a character is given, and says using age labels to get around the rule is itself a violation. Scans are run by an AI system on recent chats and selfies.

Enforcement is warn first. A first violation in chat triggers a warning, with self-harm warnings pointing to mental health resources, while CSAM in media is blocked before it is created.

Continued violations lead to an automatic account lock, and Kindroid says there are always multiple warnings first. We would prefer an immediate lock for CSAM attempts in chat, and we count this as a weakness.

How Kindroid Verifies Age

The Terms require users to be 18 or the age of majority where they live, whichever is higher. A successful payment counts as age verification for paying users.

Free users are checked through behavioral age estimation. Anyone flagged must subscribe or verify with Yoti, using either a selfie age estimate or an ID document.

Kindroid says Yoti deletes the verification data and that Kindroid stores no IDs. It also claims fewer than 2% of users get flagged, a figure we could not verify.

Two age details are inconsistent. On 2 October 2026 Google Play rated the app Mature 17+, below the 18+ rule in the Terms, while the App Store listing showed 18+.

The Privacy Policy also mentions children under 16, while the Terms use 18.

Real People and Likeness

The Terms ban using a real person's name, likeness or persona without permission. Custom avatars must start from a base image that you own the rights to.

That rule matters because avatar boost trains on four or more of your images to keep a likeness consistent. We could not test how strictly uploads are checked in practice.

Kindroid Privacy and Tracking

Kindroid's written privacy terms are stronger than most in this category, with a no-sale pledge and limited staff access. The main limit is that chats are not end-to-end encrypted.

  • Chats are encrypted at rest and in transit, and automated safety systems scan content.

  • Production access is limited to a small number of engineers, and support staff cannot see chats.

  • Content is decrypted only for an appeal you consent to, or for legal reasons.

  • Voice and video call audio and video are processed in real time and not stored, according to Kindroid.

  • The Privacy Policy says Kindroid will not sell or share personal data and has not done so in the last 12 months.

Chats and generated media are kept until you delete that Kindroid or your account. Public content may persist after deletion, and you can export your data once every 30 days.

Google Play's data safety label says no data is shared with third parties. It lists collection of photos, name, email, user IDs, app interactions, in-app messages, crash logs and device IDs.

We could not find a clear statement on whether chats are used to train AI models, so we treat that as unknown.

On our 2 October 2026 visit, the homepage set Google Analytics and Google Ads cookies within two seconds, before we clicked anything or made any consent choice.

In the same visit it also sent requests to Sentry, a Mixpanel tracking endpoint routed through a proxy, Firebase, Chargebee, hCaptcha and an IP lookup service. That is common for a subscription app, but worth knowing if you want a low tracking setup.

Kindroid Ownership, Transparency and Policies

Kindroid is operated by Beautifully Incorporated, with a mailing address at 5551 Hollywood Blvd in Los Angeles. Google Play also lists a support phone number and the email hello@kindroid.ai.

The legal page was updated on 30 September 2026. The Terms took effect on 1 November 2024 and the Privacy Policy on 28 June 2024.

The Terms apply Delaware law and require binding individual arbitration through JAMS in Los Angeles, with a class action waiver. You can opt out of arbitration by post within 30 days.

Transparency is a real strength. Kindroid keeps a dated public update log and a Help Center that explains pricing changes, memory and moderation in plain detail, including the end of the free plan.

Kindroid also says it runs regular third-party penetration tests, which we could not verify. Support runs through email, the Help Center, Discord help tickets and the r/KindroidAI subreddit, and we found no live chat.

Final Verdict

7.5

7.5/10

Recommended

Kindroid earns a 7.5/10 because it does the boring things well. It publishes how memory, moderation, age checks and refunds work, it names its company, and it makes a clear promise not to sell personal data.

The score stops there because of value. The free Lite plan ended on 1 October 2026, so Kindroid is now a paid product with a short preview, and the Ultra and MAX add-ons get expensive fast.

If you want one long term companion and are happy to pay about $14 a month on the web, Kindroid is one of the better documented choices we have reviewed. If you want to stay free, look elsewhere.
